According to an announcement made by Independent Sector, a Washington, D.C.-based network of organizations, foundations and corporations, and also recently mentioned in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, the value of volunteers’ time hit a record high in 2015 over past years, which equates to an estimated $23.56 per hour nationwide!
So far the total number of hours volunteers worked in 2015 is not available, but reviewing 2014’s numbers, and or if the number of hours stayed at least the same level the total value of these hours would be valued at $188 Billion!
A volunteer hour was worth the least in Arkansas, at $19.14. The District of Columbia was the highest-value volunteer hour at $38.77, followed by Massachusetts at $29, and Washington State at $28.99. These figures were based on hourly earnings data collected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
