Description
The Senior Director is a pivotal member of the Zero Abuse Project leadership team, overseeing programmatic initiatives and a portfolio of federal grants, including a national child abuse prosecution-related training and technical assistance grant and a grant to increase access to trauma-informed spiritual care services for child abuse victims. In addition, this role serves as Grant Award Administrator for multiple federal grants, including supervising grant personnel; managing grant budgets; and ensuring timely completion of grant deliverables.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Grants and Projects
- Provide day-to-day management of federal grants, including developing detailed project management plans; supervising grant staff; and ensuring the completion of grant deliverables and grant reporting.
- Provide leadership and oversight to Senior Attorneys and other grant staff, ensuring strategic alignment and effective implementation of grant-funded initiatives.
- Oversee the contracting and monitoring process for grant consultants and subrecipients.
- Oversee the Office of Justice Programs (DOJ) Conference Cost Reporting process for Zero Abuse.
- Monitor new grant-related rules and regulations issued by governmental agencies and design and lead implementation as necessary.
- Collaborate with Zero Abuse’s Chief Advancement Officer to research and secure additional program funding opportunities.
- Manage the grant application and reporting process for select funding opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies and systems.
- Provide operational and logistical guidance to programmatic staff.
- Collaborate with other programmatic personnel to maximize staff strengths and skills across grant projects.
Financial
- Develop comprehensive grant budgets; ensure compliance with established budgets; monitor grant spenddown rates; assess the need for no-cost extensions and/or grant modifications, and implement those steps, as needed.
- Assist with the annual organizational budget process.
- Assist with the annual organizational audit.
People Leadership
- Provide vision and leadership in pursuit of Zero Abuse Project’s mission; ensuring that the organization continues to implement impactful programs.
- Foster an organizational culture that values high-performance, high-quality services, successful and measurable outcomes, and thoughtful evaluation.
- Manage a cohesive, high-functioning team of grants and development professionals.
- Provide vision and direction to senior management and staff by encouraging innovation and continuous development and fostering a healthy, equitable organizational culture.
- Ensure organization compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, statutes, covenants, and requirements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree
- 8+ years demonstrated project management experience
- 5+ years demonstrated, substantive, and specialized knowledge in grants management and federal award oversight
- 5+ years of experience managing professionals and teams, with demonstrated results in team and organizational performance and a focus on accountability.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic decision-making and problem-solving within a nonprofit context.
- High level of diplomacy, handling confidential information with discretion, including experience working with sensitive or confidential documents.
- Experience writing grant proposals
- Experience in the criminal justice, victim services, child abuse, trauma-informed responses or related field
- Proven ability to work independently and proactively address challenges
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Skilled in common office technology programs (Google Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.) and ability to learn new platforms
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with Department of Justice grants
- Experience with Department of Justice Conference Cost Reporting requirements

What else you should know
The Senior Director is a full-time, exempt position. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The salary for this position is between $120,000- $130,000 annually, depending on experience.
Zero Abuse offers an excellent benefits package including: health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with match, disability insurance, life insurance, annual office closures the week of July 4th and the last week of the year, and generous paid time off.
The position is fully remote, however, the Senior Director will likely need to travel 3-4 times per year to help supervise major grant activities, network at national conferences, or otherwise support organizational initiatives.
The position involves regular computer and telephone use plus some minimal lifting.
