About Physicians for Social Responsibility Pennsylvania (PSR PA)

PSR Pennsylvania is a public health, 501c3 non-profit organization which fulfills its mission through programs focused on health and the environment and working with youth. Composed of a variety of health professionals, PSR Pennsylvania is uniquely equipped to discuss threats posed to public health in our region. 

The Position

PSR PA is seeking a Marketing and Communications Coordinator focused on the execution of key aspects of our overall communications strategy. The Marketing and Communications Associate will create content, including fact sheets and infographics; update our website and social media channels; edit and prepare content for our newsletter; track media mentions; and assist with researching, scripting, and editing other communications-related projects.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and serves these key functions:

  • Strategically position PSR PA as a leader in protecting PA residents from environmental health harms. 
  • Develop story ideas based on PSR PA’s organizational goals and strategically pitch written news articles and TV to local, national, and international reporters.
  • Manage media contacts and coordinate interviews, adapting messaging for different media outlets.
  • Write and distribute press releases and media advisories, ensuring accuracy and clarity for diverse readerships.
  • Edit and format materials written by PSR PA staff, including web articles, fact sheets, and other publications.
  • Draft outreach materials and web content, including articles, flyers, newsletters, and more.
  • Create, plan, and schedule content including graphics for PSR PA’s social media channels.
  • Develop infographics for articles and fact sheets.
  • Publish materials on PSR PA’s website, including web articles, fact sheets, reports, and other publications.
  • Prepare and schedule email blasts.
  • Analyze social media metrics; recommend and implement ways to increase followers and interactions.
  • Contribute ideas to develop and recalibrate PSR PA's communications strategy.
  • Help mentor interns and participate in their professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (including relevant internships).
  • Outstanding editing and writing skills.
  • Track record successfully pitching news articles to reporters.
  • Talent for graphic design and layout (PSR PA uses Canva).
  • Experience with social media planning and content creation across the platforms that PSR PA has a presence on, as well as relevant applications such as Buffer.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, research and analysis skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work autonomously to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to contribute creative ideas for outreach and messaging strategies.
  • Enthusiasm for the issues and mission of PSR PA.
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative, collegial, and supportive work environment.

Desired Qualifications (we don’t expect candidates to have all of these):

  • Ability and interest in learning new software applications.
  • Experience with website Content Management Systems (CMS), website and social media analytics, email marketing software, and HTML. PSR PA uses Wix for its website CMS and EveryAction as its email platform.
  • Experience or knowledge of marketing.
  • Established environmental news contacts and a solid press list.
  • Ability to coach and advise media spokespeople.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy, climate change issues and environmental health issues.

Location: Pennsylvania

Terms

  • This is a part-time position with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
  • Reports to the Executive Director. 
  • Hourly Range: $25 to $30 per hour, based on experience.
  • This is a fully remote position.
