In partnership with the chapter Executive Director, chapter staff, market volunteers, and other stakeholders, the Market Director is responsible for strategic growth of the Southern California Chapter Los Angeles market including, but not limited to, achievement of annual net revenue goals; achievement of outcomes as outlined in strategic plan or annual operational plan; and recruitment and successful management of staff, volunteers, donors, and corporate partners needed to achieve revenue goals and established outcomes.  Primary revenue accomplishment is through the execution of special events; targeted corporate and donor relationships; and strategic initiatives in collaboration with partners in core fundraising programs, Community Engagement, and Leadership Giving.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing a portfolio of business within the greater Los Angeles market and owns overall accountability for portfolio success.
  • Accountable for fundraising success and quality across portfolio of donors and constituents within the greater Los Angeles market.
  • Active member of the Chapter Executive Team providing overall leadership, mentoring, and operational direction to ensure cost-effective and efficient systems.
  • Active member of the Account and Opportunity Teams for high impact Leadership Giving donors, in partnership with National Leadership Giving team.
  • Identifies and develops new business with existing donors and new prospects, including corporate partners.
  • Provides excellent client relationship management to key stakeholders.
  • Takes the lead in building or deepening relationships with a portfolio of clients.
  • Is viewed as a trusted and dependable thought leader and partner to donors.
  • Understands Breakthrough T1D portfolio of offerings and how those offerings relate to donor needs.
  • Able to build and manage a successful staff team that has a shared team identity where everyone has a clear understanding of the goals and how they will be achieved. Ensures their strengths are utilized to maximize the team’s effectiveness.
  • Effectively coaches staff to develop their skills and knowledge base to be successful, building confidence and providing regular feedback.
  • In partnership with Executive Director:
    • Leads the Los Angeles Community Board in implementing annual plans.
    • Ensures the on-going development of a strong, engaged, and diverse Board.
    • Plans, prepares for, and leads LA board meetings, including confidently and clearly communicating strategic plans, budgets, needs, and asks.
    • Provides leadership and support in identifying, recruiting, empowering, and retaining high impact volunteers
  • Actively contributes to the management of the business through building of chapter capabilities, support of management decisions, ownership of processes or special projects, and identification of potential talent (staff and volunteers.)
  • Represents the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of the chapter and Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the Breakthrough T1D mission and a commitment to organizational standards. Able to articulate the nature of the business and demonstrates a grasp of all relevant strategic initiatives.

  • 7 years of professional fundraising experience, with a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission-driven organization; 5 years in a supervisory capacity. College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Record of success in a fundraising leadership role, particularly in large scale events (walk, gala, etc.) and major gifts ($10,000+). Strong skills in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and on-going stewardship of major individual donors and corporate partners.
  • Experience in partnering with strong and active volunteer leaders, as is the ability to work successfully with a large network of passionate volunteers.
  • High degree of energy, integrity, courage, empathy, and creativity. High emotional IQ. Superior active listening, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to inspire, lead, and motivate a team; develop and sustain an inclusive and respectful work environment through all interactions with staff and volunteers. Able to delegate effectively to maximize organizational and individual effectiveness.
  • Ability to develop and successfully maintain an extensive network of strategic relationships (donors, volunteers, community partners, etc.) in the local area.
  • Ability to be an enthusiastic spokesperson/representative of Breakthrough T1D’s mission. High level of comfort communicating complex information (e.g., Breakthrough T1D research, goals, etc.) to a wide range of audiences so that they can understand and retain the content.
  • History of effective performance management that aligns staff efforts with organizational goals, and proven ability to manage conflict in a collaborative way that keeps the best interests of the organization in mind.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or other customer relationship management (CRM) tools and MS Suite.
  • Highly efficient in time management and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to travel locally required. Occasional overnight travel as needed.
  • Proficiency in non-profit fiscal and strategic management preferred.
  • Existing knowledge and network of relationships in the territory preferred.

 

Target Salary - $114k - $120k
