About the Role:
The Brooklyn College Foundation seeks an energetic and accomplished Major Gifts Officer to join our Institutional Advancement team. The officer will report directly to the Managing Director, Campaign and Leadership Gifts.
This key role will oversee a portfolio of 175–200 major gift prospects, contributing significantly to the College’s capital campaign and other critical fundraising initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess a proven ability to cultivate meaningful relationships and a history of success in major gift fundraising. In this role, you’ll engage with board members, donors, and community stakeholders to further the mission and impact of the Brooklyn College Foundation. This is a full-time exempt position based in Brooklyn, New York, with a hybrid schedule requiring four days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities:
Cultivation and Solicitation:
- Identify, cultivate, and steward major gift donors and prospects.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to initiate and maintain meaningful engagement with potential donors and effectively solicit gifts.
Donor Stewardship:
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with donors, ensuring continued support and active engagement.
- Collaborate with the Institutional Advancement team to craft tailored proposals, acknowledgments, and stewardship materials.
Collaborative Campaign Leadership:
- Work closely with campaign leadership, the College President, and senior staff to secure gifts that align with institutional priorities.
- Partner with board members to enhance fundraising efforts.
Portfolio Management:
- Monitor donors' and prospects' activity to maintain positive, impactful relationships.
- Assess and refine cultivation strategies to maximize donor interactions and outcomes.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of donor interactions and proposals in Raiser’s Edge
- Support additional initiatives and projects as needed
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
- 4-6 years of direct solicitation experience in major gift fundraising, ideally within higher education.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong organizational, writing, research, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors with measurable success.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and donor database systems such as Raiser’s Edge.
- Maturity, sound judgment, and experience with building relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, trustees, faculty, and staff.
Additional Requirements:
- Availability to travel and occasionally work evenings or weekends.
