Job title: Executive Director – Asian American Insurance Network
Status: Full-time, FLSA Exempt
Expected Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000. The salary range for this position applies to our organization and reflects a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands and other business and organizational needs. This is not inclusive of our full range, and actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
Reports to: Officers and Board of Directors of AAIN (D&Os)
Position summary
AAIN is dedicated to empowering Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) insurance and risk management professionals worldwide, and addressing AANHPI issues within the insurance and risk management industry and the community at large. The Executive Director has both internally and externally facing responsibilities, and reports to the President of AAIN. The Executive Director will also work in tandem with AAIN Officers (President, Vice President, Corporate Treasurer, and Corporate Secretary) and the Board of Directors (Board) on various initiatives. The Executive Director will have an influential role as they assist the D&Os in creating, implementing and maintaining programs, projects and policies in furtherance of AAIN's mission. The ED shall partner/work collaboratively with the Officers and the Board to chart AAIN's future growth and strategic response to the increasing demand for AAIN's services. The ED will also have the opportunity to shape and design this role for AAIN on a going-forward basis.
Major duties and responsibilities
Programs and Projects
The ED facilitates addressing issues of importance identified by AAIN’s D&Os to AANHPI insurance and risk management professionals, industry, and the community at-large. Working with AAIN’s D&Os and Committee Leaders, the ED will help implement and achieve AAIN’s goals through strategic plans and other initiatives. The ED assists in the design, organization, planning, development, and implementation of programs and projects of AAIN under the direction of AAIN’s Officers and/or Board. The ED coordinates with all Committees to ensure that all programming is done in furtherance of AAIN’s mission. These programs include educational and mentorship programs, panels, workshops, and networking and fundraising initiatives. The ED also undertakes special projects for the benefit of AAIN, as directed by the Officers and/or Board.
Membership
The ED will help develop plans and programs to increase membership under the direction of the Membership Committee Chair(s), Officers and/or Board. The ED will also help coordinate the management of AAIN’s membership database and communicate with members through periodic updates, newsletters, and other reports.
Fundraising and Sponsorships
The ED is responsible for strategically planning all of AAIN’s fundraising efforts, including the design, development and implementation of AAIN’s sponsorship programs and other fundraising initiatives. The ED coordinates the management of AAIN’s sponsorship database with the Sponsorship Committee and works in conjunction with the Committee, Officers, and Board to maintain existing relationships and help develop new sponsorship relationships. The ED also assists the Corporate Treasurer in the financial management of the organization, assisting in preparing profit and loss and other financial statements, budgets, coordinate the preparation of grants, and identifying any other sources of income.
Community Outreach
The ED participates in and assists in the design, organization, and planning of events targeted towards the AANHPI community. This involves working with professionals in the insurance and risk management industries, higher education, industry associations, AAIN members, and other AANHPI organizations under the direction of the Allyship Committee, Officers and/or Board. The ED will also represent AAIN at public functions as may be required, under the direction of the Allyship Committee, Officers and/or Board.
Administration
The ED assists in the administration of the day-to-day activities of AAIN with the assistance of Officers and/or Board and other volunteers, including (1) website maintenance, (2) the processing of membership applications, (3) responding to third party, member, and sponsor inquiries; (4) creation of any policies and procedures within the organization; and (5) any other administrative tasks. The ED also assists the Corporate Secretary in the preparation of Board meetings as needed, including the preparation of Board materials, and attends and participates in Board meetings.
Qualifications
Education
Four-year university degree required, and advanced degree (including MBA) is preferred, but not required. Educational coursework or background in management of non-profit organizations is desirable. Educational coursework or background in AANHPI studies or issues affecting the AANHPI community or AANHPI business professionals is desirable. Educational coursework on diversity, equity, inclusion, and elimination of bias is desirable.
Experience
At least five years of demonstrated management work experience in fast-paced environments is preferred with proven fundraising experience for non-profit groups.
Skills
Strong planning, time management, analytical, organizational, research, writing, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups both internally and externally. Ability to think proactively, strategically, adaptively, and creatively. Strong computer skills (including working with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Workspace, and online conference platforms (e.g., Teams, Zoom, Google Meets, and Webex)) desired. Familiarity with social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram) desired. Experience maintaining websites and email databases a plus (i.e., working with HTML 5 and CMS environments, MailChimp).
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a remote environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages, and other items, and to travel. In addition, operation of standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines, cell phones and the like, is also required. Communication with other employees, both orally and in writing is required. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Working Environment
The position will be primarily remote. Periodic travel for business functions is also required (10-20%) as necessary and appropriate to support and attend certain national and local events and administrative meetings. Many events are attended by local chapters and national leaders which do not require the Executive Director’s attendance.
Compensation and hours
Expected Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000 per year (health/dental/vision insurance offered). The salary range for this position applies to our organization and reflects a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands and other business and organizational needs. This is not inclusive of our full range, and actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law. This is an exempt position. Reasonable expenses while on AAIN business will be reimbursed. Bonus offered based on procurement of program goals as specified by the sole discretion of AAIN.
The position is full-time (average 40 hours/week) with an immediate start date. The general working hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm local time. However, flexibility is needed to accommodate business needs, including periodic attendance at evening and weekend functions.
