Description
Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society, is seeking a full-time Executive Director (ED) with proven experience in general operations and development of strategic planning that aligns the fiscal health of the organization with the evolving needs of animals and people. As an organizational leader, the ED will work diligently to provide administrative oversight of general operations, fiscal management, and ensure cost-effective and humane operation of the shelter. This leadership role is responsible for managing a $1 million annual budget, leading and managing staff, steering community outreach and development efforts, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders including donors, animal welfare colleagues, the board of directors, and other community constituents.
Responsibilities:
• Develop a strategic organizational plan, including fiscal health of the organization
• Manage a $1 million+ annual budget for the organization
• Oversee and integrate a skilled management team focused on successful non-profit operations
• Develop a work culture that attracts and retains talented and diverse staff
• Create relationships with individuals and organizations to facilitate successful programs and the organization’s financial future
• Provide administrative leadership, working with the board of directors, donors, municipal and organizational partners, and other stakeholders to sustain the mission of the organization and support animal welfare services throughout the region
• Conduct community and donor outreach, building new beneficial partnerships with vendors, colleagues, and other stakeholders
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (business administration, non-profit leadership, human resources, finance, Public Relations), advanced degree preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in leadership and/or management role (preferably in a non-profit environment)
• Direct knowledge and experience overseeing complex budgets, generating revenue streams, and limiting costs.
• Experience overseeing the nonprofit status of organizations including filing annual 990s
• Team leadership experience with the ability to inspire and work with diverse staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and the board of directors
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to make informed strategic decisions that support the success and mission of the organization
• Passion for animal welfare and commitment to mission-driven work.
