EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION AT PRG

kpCompanies is leading the search for a seasoned and community-centric Executive Director for PRG. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic leader who is passionate about affordable housing, community empowerment, and racial equity. This pivotal role is ideal for individuals with a deep commitment to effective programming aimed at providing homebuyer education, foreclosure prevention, and community development. The Executive Director will have multiple direct reports.

ABOUT PRG

Founded in 1976, PRG is a community-based organization governed by a board of directors that includes former clients and staff. Located in Minneapolis, PRG strives to eliminate the racial homeownership gap in the region. PRG has 12 employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $1.2 million. PRG develops $3M to $5M in affordable housing each year and as an administrator of the Community First Generation Downpayment Assistance Program, expects to originate around $7M in downpayment assistance over the next several years. As a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency, PRG is one of the largest providers of homebuyer education/advising and foreclosure prevention in the state. The organization actively participates in public policy initiatives, notably the Homeownership Minnesota Coalition.

Since 2015, PRG has significantly embedded racial equity into its programs, policies, and practices, evident in its marketing, outreach, hiring, board recruitment, public policy work, and business partnerships.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to advance PRG's mission. This role involves developing and executing strategic plans, managing daily operations, ensuring financial stability, and fostering strong relationships with community stakeholders. The Executive Director will also lead fundraising initiatives and advocate for PRG’s goals and values in public forums.

The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and collaborates closely with them to set organizational goals and policies. They will work closely with and be supported by the Homeownership Services Program Manager and the Real Estate and Development Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic leadership to achieve PRG's mission and vision.
  • Advocate for policy changes and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial management, including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Ensure fund diversification, specifically targeting increased philanthropic and earned revenue.
  • Engage and collaborate with community partners, donors, and policymakers.
  • Ensure the continued delivery of high-impact programs and services.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization and its initiatives.
  • Supervise the leadership team and coordinate with the Board of Directors.
  • Represent PRG to external stakeholders. 
  • Proven experience in managing, supervising, and cultivating staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ON ENTRY

  • Proven experience as an Executive Director or in a similar leadership role within an organization.
  • Strong commitment to community empowerment, affordable housing, and racial equity.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking/execution, organizational leadership, and financial management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Experience in financial management, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and fostering inclusive environments.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working as a community organizer and developing community leaders.
  • Experience with or knowledge of state and local policy and government funding programs.
  • Familiarity with affordable housing systems and real estate work.
  • Experience developing earned revenue strategies.
  • Proficiency with intercultural work and a commitment to continuous learning.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is primarily an in-office position.
  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends as needed.
  • Strong culture of life/work balance. 
  • Some travel is required for conferences and meetings.

EQUITY AND SALARY DISCLOSURE

We believe in practices that create real equity and pay parity regardless of background or identity. We freely discuss compensation with all qualified candidates the first time we interview them. The expected salary range is $120,000-$140,000, depending on qualifications.
