Description

The Madison College Foundation seeks an experienced and hands-on financial professional for the role of Director of Finance & Administration. As a member of the leadership team this role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, providing accurate, timely and actionable financial information to management and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. Reporting to the CEO, and managing the Controller, this role plays a critical role in leading short and long-term planning and analysis activities, managing the endowment, and administering key information systems in alignment with overall organizational strategic priorities.

 

Financial Management

  • Develop, prioritize, and execute mission aligned financial strategies to maximize organizational effectiveness and financial health and sustainability.
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting, including accounts payable, pledges receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions. Evaluate the ownership of accounting activities to balance workload with the Controller in an internal control environment.
  • Effectively present financial statements and interpret analytics to provide insights and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare the annual budget and perform on-going reforecasting and financial analysis to identify and explain variances and propose leveraging and/or mitigating action.
  • Actively manage cash positions and cash flow projections to balance liquidity needs and earnings potential.
  • Monitor endowment performance, allocations, spend rate calculations and balances in accordance with established policy.
  • Collaborating with the Controller, develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, systems, and procedures that generate accurate and meaningful financial reports and safeguard assets.
  • Create financial models to evaluate business scenarios and support data driven decision-making.
  • Oversees the annual audit process. Maintain a system of accurate files and ensure timely preparation and filing of IRS form 990.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including GAAP, UPMIFA, and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Maintain relationships with banking institutions, auditors, legal counsel, benefit providers and insurance brokers.

Administrative Management

  • Serve as Database Administrator for donor management, general ledger, and prospect research systems.
  • Guide the organization in the development and implementation of policies, workflows, and procedures that drive efficiency.
  • Evaluate, plan, and implement modifications to existing operations, systems, and procedures to optimize performance.
  • Manage data collection and analysis to support operational and financial goal tracking and metrics within a results-oriented culture.
  • Fulfill routine and ad hoc requests for source system data from the CEO, Development, and Operations to facilitate timely responses to donors, students, and other key stakeholders.
  • Participate in the monitoring and management of the Foundation Centre property and property related matters.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. CMA, CPA, and/or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 -7 years of financial management experience required. Experience in a nonprofit preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting and governance principles, UPMIFA and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
  • Information systems proficiency. Hands-on experience with donor management or CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge preferred), general ledger systems (Financial Edge preferred).
  • Advance Microsoft Excel skills required. Knowledge of Power BI, Power Query and/or Power Pivot preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
