Description

Job Summary: The Development Director is responsible for leading revenue-generating and development efforts for Care Camps Foundation. The Development Director will target corporations, foundations, associations within the outdoor industry as well as major individual donors. This position will cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and potential donors, securing increased philanthropic support to elevate Care Camps Foundation’s mission.

Accountability: This position reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Care Camps Foundation staff to chart the Foundation’s direction to assure its accountability to the Care Camps Foundation’s Board of Directors and other stakeholders. This position is the primary contact for new donation streams and developing relationships with new donors.  Additionally, the Development Director consistently works with Care Camps Foundation’s team to sustain and strengthen existing donation streams and relationships.  Applying a collegial communication style, collaborative work ethic and exemplary customer relations skills constitute core competencies for this position.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Develop and execute a strategic Care Camps Foundation Donor Cultivation Plan that addresses fundraising goals, strategies, and timelines.
  • Research and identify opportunities for new individual, corporate, or foundation donors within the outdoor industry. Cultivate prospective donor relationships through a mixture of phone calls, compelling presentations, online meetings, and in-person outreach.
  • Work with the Executive Director and other team members to build and maintain strong long-term relationships with existing major donors to communicate the positive impact their donations have and ensure their continued satisfaction.
  • Support the Care Camps Foundation team to identify and develop potential new donors as engaged participants in the Ambassador Program.
  • Gather, discuss, and document feedback on each major new donor’s preferences and philanthropic goals for partnering with Care Camps Foundation, collaboratively sharing these insights with the Care Camps Foundation team.
  • Participate in coordinated Care Camps Foundation efforts to sustain and strengthen existing fundraising programs including major gifts, corporate partnerships, employee giving campaigns, campground fundraising efforts, the Ambassador program, donor stewardship events, key fundraisers, and other special events.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to advance strategies that effectively grow Care Camp Foundation’s national visibility as a charitable entity for fundraising programs supporting ‘kids with cancer'.
  • Utilize donor management software (CRM) to track and cultivate current Care Camps Foundation donors and prospects.
  • Evaluate donor data to report on progress in achieving partners’ charitable goals and other milestones.
  • Stay current on best practices and trends in philanthropy and charitable giving, along with developments in our major donors’ industries, to maximize revenue and integrate successful new fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to maintain regular contact with each major donor.
  • Maintain an active list of potential donors who are in the various stages of being cultivated.
  • Oversee Care Camps Foundation’s donor recognition.

Financial Planning & Management

In collaboration with the Executive Director:

  • Create a development budget including future income forecasts.
  • Practice exemplary stewardship by carefully controlling and monitoring income and expenses for all development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Care Camps Foundation team as collectively responsible for revenue generation, spending stewardship and adhering to budget.

Meetings & Conventions

  • Support the Care Camps Foundation’s team by executing necessary duties to ensure event success in raising awareness and revenue for Care Camps Foundation. Activities may include collaborative planning and/or participation in regional and national conventions, expos or other charitable event opportunities in various venues benefiting Care Camps Foundation.
  • Present at key strategic national and regional events as assigned.

Management & Support

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and team to create and execute compelling presentations, videos, and other marketing materials needed for development efforts, along with online donation solicitations across email and social media channels.
  • Report on development progress to Executive Director and the Board.

Other Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Represent Care Camps Foundation in a professional manner at conferences, trade shows, and events as well as to donors, partners, and other Care Camps Foundation constituents.
  • Travel occasionally to key meetings and events that may require outside normal business hours. Estimated travel required is approximately 25-30% pending where the Development Director resides.
  • Willingness to be flexible with work responsibilities and work in a collaborative manner.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven success in professional fundraising and business development with national non-profit organizations or other national organizations.
  • Passion for and connection to our mission: to give joy, hope and the healing power of the outdoors to children with cancer and their families at medically supervised pediatric oncology camps.
  • Familiar with the outdoor industry and their corporate social responsibility efforts.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills to engage donors and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with fundraising software and tools to track progress throughout the year.
  • Ability to prioritize and utilize effective time management skills to help keep projects on track.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Classification: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position requiring 40 hours per week.

Work environment: The Care Camps Foundation office is based in Billings, Montana.  The Development Director position may tele-commute with the approval of the Executive Director. Travel is required to support Care Camps Foundation activities, and these expenses are paid by Care Camps Foundation. In addition to compensation, Care Camps Foundation will provide essential technology and software (e.g., laptop) and other benefits.
