Location: Jasteka Cultural Center, Jeffersonville, IN

The Jasteka Cultural Center is seeking a full-time inaugural Director to solidify its role as a vital cultural resource for the community. This individual should have a deep passion for the mission of the Center and a belief in the power of art to drive positive social change.

 

About Us:

Jasteka provides a platform to generate creative study, critical thinking, awareness and insight providing a free, accessible community space for all people to engage with art and to use art to engage with each other.

Position Overview:

The Director will provide visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure the continued success and growth of the Center. This individual will utilize the foundation’s collection to foster dialogue and create learning opportunities for diverse audiences. Through investment in operationalizing, professionalizing and dynamically animating the project, the founders seek to generate positive impact on the economic development of the area while transforming lives, opening minds and uniting the community. Presently revenues for the center are provided by the founders. Fundraising will not be an immediate responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership and Development:
    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of culturally significant events and programs for families, students, adults, and the broader
    • Oversee programs related to the Center’s collections, special exhibitions, festivals, and other initiatives, ensuring they are accessible, inclusive, and
    • Foster a culture of creativity and innovation, encouraging new ideas and interdisciplinary approaches to learning and community engagement.
    • Create an institution that will become a model for others and inspire business leaders, philanthropists and collectors to creatively innovate outside of the traditional art museum box.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships:
    • Expand Jasteka’s reach through strategic alliances and innovative
    • Work together—not in competition— with museums, schools, performing arts groups and institutions of higher education.
    • Develop relationships with artists in an exciting environment that showcases their work functioning as intended—reaching people and changing the world.
  • Strategic Planning and Organizational Leadership:
    • Develop and implement long-term strategic goals to enhance the Center’s community engagement, sustainability, and impact.
    • Lead efforts to expand the Center’s audience base through innovative programming and digital initiatives, ensuring programs resonate with a broad range of participants.
    • Ensure operational excellence by overseeing systems, processes, and resources to support effective program delivery and organizational
  • Financial and Budgetary Oversight:
    • Monitor and adjust financial strategies to ensure maximum impact from the supporting
    • Prepare and manage annual budgets, ensuring financial sustainability (or accountability) and responsible use of resources.
  • Public Relations and Marketing:
    • Develop and implement communication strategies to increase the visibility of the Center and its programs.
    • Serve as the Center’s primary spokesperson and advocate, representing the organization to key stakeholders, including donors, the media, and the

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience needed to develop and operate the Mission and Vision:

  • Entrepreneurial non-profit administrative experience
  • Demonstrated startup success preferred
  • High level knowledge of and connections within the contemporary art world
  • Commitment to the educational mission
  • Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, art history, art education, or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with public and private schools
  • Educational philosophy/pedagogy training/degree
  • Sophisticated understanding of next gen workforce needs + technology implications on skill development
  • Commitment to and belief in the development of critical thinking skills and practices
  • Familiarity with contemporary art
  • Demonstrated community outreach experience
